Acceptable Containers - Only containers marked on the bottom of the pot/tray with the following numbers are permitted:

  • #6 Polystyrene (PS) – pots, trays, and flats
  • #5 Polypropylene (PP) ‐ nursery trays or flats
  • #2 High density polyethylene (HDPE) – nursery pots

Requirements on Acceptable Containers:

  • Material must be sorted and stacked with like plastics
  • Very large amounts should be sorted, shrink‐wrapped and stacked on pallets
  • Pots must be dry and clean – free of all loose soil
  • Containers should be dropped off at Midwest Groundcovers pick up yard in St. Charles

Not Accepted:

  • Unmarked plastics
  • Mixed plastics
  • Unsorted containers
  • Disposable plastic and non –horticultural containers such as plastic soda bottles, milk jugs, chemical containers, plastic dinnerware, etc
  • Containers with loose soil, or soil stuck to edges
  • Horticultural labels or containers with labels attached

NOTE - Dropping any of the above items may disqualify you from the program or fees may be assessed as listed:

  • $50 Pickup truck (2 yards)
  • $175 Small dump truck / box truck (5 – 10 yards)
  • $500 Semi dump truck (20+ yards)

*  MG will pick up containers for a fee of $20 per cage. Pots and flats that are not pre‐sorted will not be accepted by MG drivers.

*  For Larger quantities of containers or unsorted plastic material which you think may be eligible for bulk recycling, contact Catalino Mendoza at 847‐468‐2026 to determine whether we can partner in a custom recycling arrangement.

*  Custom recycling arrangements require 72 hours notice, and sorting or processing fees may be assessed.
