Senior Inventory & Distribution Foreman

Midwest Groundcovers – St. Charles, IL

Full Time Year Round

To be responsible for collecting, auditing, and processing inventory information in the assigned Warehouse and communicating this information to production, sales, and administration.  Oversee the shipping and receiving of inventory transfers between other warehouses and the assigned warehouse.  Oversee the order assembly of shipping orders in the assigned warehouse.

Essential Responsibilities:

Inventory Management:

  • Review and update plant locations in the nursery 
  • Input Loss Reports and Changes of Location into ROSS 
  • Monitor crops and make transactions to ensure appropriate plant status 
  • Input and maintain plant notes based on seasonally appropriate plant characteristics 
  • Monitor and report on inventory availability affected by booked orders 
  • Coordinate Annual Physical Inventory 

Quality and Salability:

  • Audit grow crops for salability based on company quality standards within two weeks prior to due date expiration 
  • Monitor crops in selling based on company quality standards and change to appropriate status as needed 
  • Communicate with Sales regarding changes in salable quantities that affect Dated Sales Orders 
  • Provide photos upon request 
  • Provide communication bridge between Sales and Production 
  • Work with sales staff in promoting saleable plant material that is excess, available, or discontinued 

Order Fulfillment and Distribution Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise the safe and efficient operation of Pulling and Dock Processes including: 
  • Paperwork and Label Assembly 
  • Tractor and Puller Coordination 
  • Order Assembly 
  • Quality Assurance 
  • Truck Loading 
  • Maintain Pull Locations in ROSS with accurate Lot Rating, House Rating, and Pull/No Pull status 
  • Communicate inventory quantity and quality issues to Sales, Operations, and Production 
  • Monitor and update plant height information on Cage Tables 

Production Support: 

  • Review loss trends and bring to the attention of growers 
  • Provide feedback to growers on field observations including mixed crops, cultural issues, pests, etc. 
  • Regroup regularly with Department Growers 
  • Identify areas for crop consolidation and inventory clean up to the growers

Department Support: 

  • Bring issues to the Inventory Manager and Nursery Manager’s attention 
  • Attend Inventory Department, Department Grower and Puller meetings 
  • Assist in the development of new processes 
  • Identify ROSS needs and write specs 
  • Cross train as needed 
  • Perform other tasks as needed

Cost Accounting: 

  • Understand all inventory related transactions and the effect on cost accounting 
  • Identify issues and problems and bring them to the attention of the nursery manager & comptroller 
  • Run the LOT aging report monthly to investigate items that have accrued a cost higher than the selling cost 


  • Enforce Midwest Groundcovers policies 
  • Manage, coach, and train Dock, Tractor, and Pulling teams
  • Manage employee schedules

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Ability to manage time efficiently 
  • Ability to pay attention to detail 
  • Good oral and written communication skills 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software 
  • Horticulture experience or similar industry 

Preferred Experience:

  • Associate degree in horticulture or similar industry 
  • 1-2 years of inventory work experience 
  • 1-2 years of manufacturing or production related experience
