Essential Responsibilities:

Sales and Customer Service Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient, accurate, and knowledgeable service through multiple channels (phone, fax, email or in person) to ensure excellent customer satisfaction and to sell customers on Midwest Groundcovers’ and Midwest Trading’s broad product line.
  • Understand, apply, and effectively communicate Midwest Groundcovers’ customer service policies.
  • Maintain basic Ross, Sharepoint, and credit card processing skills as they apply to Sales.
    • Understand and communicate the inventory system.  Communicate order readiness to customers.
    • Enter Customer Number Applications.
    • Enter quotes and orders (via Wholesale Office and MGSales).
    • Process payments in Wholesale Office and in UPICK via cash, check, or credit card.
  • Ability to support & be fully cross-trained in Inside Sales as needed.
  • Achieve Midwest Trading, UPICK, & tree sales goals while supporting and achieving the company’s annual sales goals.
  • Provide excellent customer service.  Sell and promote products and services.
  • To develop customer relationships, answer customer questions by phone, in person, or via email about their accounts, quotes, orders, or plants.
  • Sell overstock items for MG & MT directed by Sales Yard Manager and UPICK Supervisor.

Wholesale Yard Operational Responsibilities:

  • Attend regular tailgate safety training (once per month).  Actively participate in following safety policies.  Maintain a safe and clean work area.  Strive to achieve an accident-free work record for the area each year.
  • Coordinate the flow of paperwork to appropriate departments.
    • Daily paperwork and payment for invoicing.
    • Customer Number Applications or Credit Applications
  • Assist in the coordination and production of in-house events targeted at Wholesale and UPICK customers.
  • Backup for Trading yard loader and tree loading as needed.
    • Will be trained to operate tree loader, bucket loader, and forklift.
    • Responsible for knowing the logistics of where Trading items are, and helping to load customers; seed, blankets, tarps, bags, bulk, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining Midwest Trading goods in Wholesale Yard displays.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing sales yard processes:
    • Maintain buy-in items (i.e. Midwest Trading products).
    • Assist with the coordination, completion, and logging of donation orders.
    • Maintain communications on Wholesale Office TV and whiteboard.
    • Run reporting, assign, and communicate open orders sitting in the order holding area.
    • Run reporting and communicate SPROB/SCOMP details.

Projects and Process Improvements

  • Participate in regular training to maintain and update skills.
  • Support process, procedure, and system improvements for the department.  Utilize the closed loop problem solving methods and action plan systems to help implement changes.
  • Develop and maintain strong Ross report output skills to supply feedback information for tracking sales, and to support department and Outside Sales goals.  Some reports include:  ACD, Open Booked Orders, Will Call Orders, and Sales History Reporting.
  • Responsible for determining and achieving individual annual goals, and working toward personal and professional growth, while supporting the department, company, and industry.

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, accurately, and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Strong competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Positive, action oriented attitude towards problems solving and satisfying customer needs.
  • Ability to output a high volume of work accurately with attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • Junior College or higher education in horticulture, sales, marketing, or general business.
  • 2 years of horticultural or job related experience in sales or customer service.
