Frequently Asked Questions
Crops
How does XX crop look right now? Can you send me a picture?
Logging into our website allows you to request current crop photos straight from our nursery—just click the camera icon next to the item. We’ll upload a real-time photo within 24 hours, and you’ll receive an email with the image. You can request up to 5 crop shots per day.
How do I know what size the crop is?
Shrub measurements are listed on our website on our Availability page. Perennials, Grasses and Groundcovers do not list sizes due to how quickly they grow in a season.
Can you let me know when XX becomes available?
Yes! You can sign up for Availability Alerts from the Customer Portal. Simply log in to the website, select “Alert Preferences” and choose to receive alerts via text and/or email. You can then click on the bell icon on the Availability page to receive an alert when those plants move from “Grow Crop” to “Available”. Additionally, from the Customer Portal you can click on “Availability Requests” to view the alerts you have signed up for.

Delivery & Freight
How much is freight?
You can find our shipping rates based on your area here.
When can my order be shipped to me?
Please click here for our delivery schedules.
I’ve made order minimum, why am I being charged freight?
Our plant prices do not include the costs involved with shipping. Midwest Groundcovers continually reviews other shipping vendors to make sure we are charging a fair fee to cover the costs of our fleet.
Why is there a fuel surcharge?
Due to the ever-changing cost of diesel, at times MG does charge a fuel surcharge. Fuel surcharges are calculated as % of the freight fees and adjusted on a weekly basis. Midwest Groundcovers LLC uses the U.S. Energy Information Administration Midwest average price for a gallon of diesel fuel as the basis for calculating fuel surcharges. Refer to their website for full information: www.eia.gov/oog/info/wohdp/diesel.asp
Why do I have freight on multiple orders? It’s all going on the same truck.
Our shipping fees are calculated as a percentage of the order total. If all orders were to be combined, the shipping fee would stay the same.
Can you send plants via UPS?
We ship NGN plugs and NGN pints via UPS, as well as groundcover (non-NGN) pints. However, we do not ship 24-flats or #1 containers through UPS.

What is The U-PICK Yard?
The U-PICK Yard is stocked with larger inventories of our most requested plants. Customers can conveniently hand pick from a wide selection of our best sellers without having to wait for their order to be pulled! Learn More.
How do you label the plants?
Every single pot will have a product identifier sticker label. This feature will eliminate any order confusion when purchasing different varieties of the same plant. Flats, such as the 10 Flat, 12 Flat, 24 Flat and 38 Flat will have 1 sticker per flat unless combined with the Custom Color Label Program.
These sticker labels have a barcode and are both water and weather proof – we tested them through a spring season.

Will Call Orders
We understand Landscape Contractors can face unpredictable circumstances when it comes to the timing of plant installations. To support our Landscape Contractors, we offer the opportunity to place WILL CALL orders. A WILL CALL order will reserve plant inventory for the first or second half of the month in which it is placed.Â
Â
WILL CALL orders dated between the 1st and 14th of the month will be considered first half of the moth WILL CALL orders. WILL CALL orders dated between the 15th – end of the month will be considered last half of the month WILL CALL orders.
Â
We understand jobs get delayed. If your job gets pushed out a month or more, please contact our sales team to move the order to a new month, or manage / edit your orders online.
WILL CALL orders must be RELEASED by contacting our sales team or editing the order via the website prior to it being assembled.

Custom Color Labels
For a small fee, we offer our garden center customers the ability to include Custom Color Labels with their order. The labels include the customer’s logo, a photo of the mature plant, important plant characteristics, and the customer’s retail price.
To learn more about the program and how to participate, contact our sales team.
Customers in Custom Color Label program will automatically receive labels with orders placed via the webstore. If they do not want the labels for a particular order, it will be the customer’s responsibility to contact our sales team and ask to have them removed from the order.
At this time, customers in the program will need to contact our sales team to make any updates to the pre-printed retail price on the label. We will be working to improve this functionality in the coming months.
