Catalino Mendoza started working for Midwest Groundcovers in 1987 as a Floater. In this position, he would “float” from one department to the next, helping wherever possible. By the middle of his first season, Catalino was trained to do most of the tasks in the nursery for both Midwest Groundcovers and Midwest Trading with a focus on customer service. Now he serves customers as the Order Operations Manager. Catalino reflects that many things have changed about the company since he starting working as a Floater. One of the big changes has been the implementation of Lean Flow—a process that focuses on increasing efficiency by eliminating non-value added tasks. Lean Flow was implemented in the spring of 2017 in the Order Fulfillment Department, with Catalino working diligently on the project.
What Catalino enjoys most about working at Midwest Groundcovers is the great people and serving customers. He says, “Working for a company that gives you the opportunity to do what you really enjoy, I don’t call that work. I just feel very fortunate to do what I love.”
