Jose Rosas started with Midwest Groundcovers in 1997 as a general production worker.
During his 22 years at Midwest, he has held many different jobs: from hand-watering as an assistant grower to managing 80 hoop houses of Vinca to being the main propagator and then serving as a department grower at our North Prop nursery. For the past eight years, he has held the title of Production Foreman. Jose enjoys his job because he does many different things, which keeps him from getting bored. He likes the changes and watching the cycle of the plants as they grow.
During the late 90’s, he started germinating native seeds under the guidance of Roy Diblik, a long-time friend of Midwest Groundcovers and recognized perennial plant expert. Midwest saw the growing demand of natives and decided to ramp up production by hand-germinating native seeds. As Jose’s mentor, Roy taught him how to germinate seeds with a handwritten ‘recipe’ for each plant. Our natives have grown from 2 hoop houses of space to 20 hoop houses! Roy may be an expert on perennial plants, but Jose is our personal expert on production!
