REVITALIZED MEDIAN GARDEN

The garden showcases tough and resilient plants, some of which have been around for a long time, and uses them in new ways.
Designed by Austin Eischeid in 2019, our low maintenance, high impact Revitalized Median Garden runs between the parking lot of our main office building and the gravel roadway leading to our pick-up yard. The garden showcases tough and resilient plants, some of which have been around for a long time, and uses them in new ways.

This new take on a traditional median planting incorporates interplanted and diverse design for this commonly overlooked, but highly visible, landscape feature. Despite the more complex design, this garden is still low maintenance, as you would see in a typical median planting.  Plants are cut back with hedge or string trimmers in spring and receive limited supplemental irrigation throughout the season.

Low Maintenance, High Impact Median Planting

This garden runs between the parking lot of our main office building and the gravel roadway leading to our pick-up yard. In other words, it’s an area of high traffic that is hot and dry in the summer and next to large piles of snow in the winter. It’s a new take on a traditional median planting; instead of the typical swath of daylilies or juniper you may see in a commercial environment. One of the highlights of this garden is how it combines older and newer varieties. Creating this garden has opened our eyes to the possibilities for median plantings - that they can be so much more than a utilitarian monoculture of commodity plants. It has been exciting to see these underutilized varieties front and center in our own landscape, and it is our hope that they will inspire your designs and help take median landscapes to the next level.
