Purchasing/Procurement Specialist  

Midwest Trading – Maple Park, IL

Full Time Year Round

To ensure all internal and external customer needs are being met by accurately and timely purchasing material with consideration of cost and budget for production and resale. Maximize the effectiveness of purchasing resources through improvements in cost structures, production methods, and results reporting.  Build relationships with suppliers and coordinate information from suppliers to improve production and product offerings.  Assist with maintenance of item data fields in the inventory system.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Understand team needs and purchase product in a timely and proactive manner 
  • Continuously balance materials on hand and reasonable inventory levels. 
  • Maintain complete accurate records at all times 
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships that balance the best interests of both parties. 
  • Research new vendors and or products to develop more options and to strengthen our inventory position. 
  • Assist in negotiating short and long-term purchase volumes and pricing 
  • Provide product information to sales team as needed 
  • Count inbound inventory to assure it matches packing list/BOL & is in satisfactory condition. Seek credit from vendor for damaged & missing product 
  • Monitor, compile and publish annual vendor performance review and yearly vendor purchasing report.  


  • Assist Inventory Coordinator with physical counts 
  • Train as back up on inventory functions 


  • Maintain all product costs, descriptions, and item numbers in ROSS and Master Cost Sheet. 
  • Manage, maintain, replenish, and recommend inventory needs 
  • Forecast and manage the inventory of product lines 
  • Monitor costs and provide cost analysis on said products
  • Manage periodic promotion initiatives and spot sales programs

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Ability to work well with others 
  • Good oral and written communications skills 
  • Excellent organizational & project management skills 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a positive, action-oriented attitude 
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines 
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office products and a strong understanding of inventory systems. 
  • Strong negotiation skills 
  • Ability to quickly learn new software programs

Preferred Experience:

  • CPP certification or supply chain procurement certificate required 
  • 1-3 years Procurement/purchasing or supply chain management experience required
